Public Assistance
Public Assistance Division
The Public Assistance Division provides assistance to state agencies, local governments, special districts and eligible private non-profit organizations impacted by a disaster in order to achieve a safer future for all California communities. The Public Assistance Division ensures state and federal support is provided to applicants in an efficient and timely manner in order to assist in recovery from a major disaster or emergency.

State and Federally Funded Disaster Assistance Programs
California Disaster Assistance Act
CDAA provides state financial assistance for recovery efforts to cities and/or counties, and certain private nonprofit organizations special districts after a state disaster has been declared.
COVID-19 Assistance
COVID-19 assistance is provided to state agencies, local governments, special districts and Indian Tribal Governments for coronavirus pandemic response and recovery.
Federal Disaster Assistance
Federal financial assistance for recovery efforts is made available to cities, counties, state agencies and eligible private non-profits after a federal disaster has been declared.
Fire Management Assistance Grant
Federal financial assistance is provided to state agencies, local governments, special districts and Indian Tribal Governments for emergency response and fire suppression activities for federally declared fires.
Applicants’ Briefings
Applicants’ Briefings provide potential applicants with basic information to assist them in their efforts to understand the requirements associated with applying for Public Assistance due to a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration, under the California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA) or under a Presidential Emergency Declaration. These briefings cover topics such as: application processing, eligibility requirements, cost documentation guidance, record keeping, audit requirements, and deadline dates.
