Applicant Qualifications

To qualify, participants must:

  • Be the legal property owner in a participating area at the time of application
  • Be willing to participate in a home assessment to determine the measures which may be taken to safeguard your home
  • Be willing to sign a right of entry to your property and allow contractors to implement the defensible space and home hardening activities

Application Details for Interested Homeowners

CWMP Applications are only being accepted in specific areas within the communities below. If your home is outside of the Current Project Areas, your application will be rejected.

Current Project Areas:

  • Lake County – Kelseyville Riviera
  • San Diego County – Dulzura, Campo, Potrero
  • Shasta County – Whitmore, Lakehead, Oak Run
  • Siskiyou County – Mt. Shasta

If your application is approved, the program will provide a free home assessment to determine what measures may be needed to better protect your home from wildfires.

Q: My county is not listed in the pilot phase; Can I still apply?

A: No. At this time, we are only accepting applications for properties located in the project areas of select counties.

 

Q: I rent my home; can I apply?

A: No. At this time, only actual, legal property owners can apply. Please speak with your landlord / property owner regarding applying for the program.

 

Q: Can a homeowner apply for the program if their home is located in the project area but is not their primary residence? 

A: Yes.

 

Q: I own a manufactured or mobile home. Can I still apply?

A: Yes.

 

Q: My home may be unpermitted or might have unpermitted features. Can I still apply?

A: Yes, but program limitations may apply.

 

Q: I have been awarded funds for mitigation work in the past. Can I still apply?

A: Yes.

 

Q: Is my entire property going to be assessed?

A: The defensible space zones around the structures on your property will be assessed, which is typically a 100 ft diameter around each structure, but could be as much as 300 ft.

 

Q: Do I get to choose what work gets done on my property?

A: If your home is preliminary approved, an individualized home assessment report will be generated specific to your property. This report will contain required, recommended, and optional measures for program participation.

 

Q: How are project areas selected?

A: Program staff and our partners have reviewed data for high-risk fire severity areas combined with other socioeconomic factors to determine project areas.

 

Q: Does anyone need to come inside my home?

A: It is unlikely assessors will need to go inside homes during assessments, however contractors may need to enter your home to complete retrofits as needed.
